Who We Are
Pat Hanners
The godfather of our organization, rumor has it he actually harvested the first mushroom approximately 90 million years ago. He was involved in the development of novel cultivation techniques in the 1980s, and worked for the USDA for years. He’s our go-to expert.

Christian Baker
Christian grew up in Hampton Roads, Virginia, before joining the military at 21 as a RADAR technician, serving for four years. Afterward, he pursued his passion for cooking at Johnson & Wales University, graduating with honors and working in kitchens across the U.S., eventually becoming a sous chef. Balancing restaurant life with raising two children proved challenging, leading him to a more stable role in military inventory management at Ft. Eustis, VA.
In 2020, he bought a home in Mathews, VA, surrounded by towering trees—making traditional gardening difficult. Inspired by his shady, moisture-rich environment, he turned to mushroom cultivation, launching Mush Love in 2022 with the mission of feeding his community. By 2025, the farm grew to 5,000 logs, reinforcing his belief that building a strong community starts with healthy food. Christian is always happy to share his knowledge and experience, so if you have questions, just ask! Plus, with laughter as one of his favorite things, he’s truly a fun guy.

Our Methods
Mushrooms can be grown in many ways, and we strive to perfect the sustainable methods.
In nature, mushrooms grow on forest floors, logs, and a variety of other mediums. Modern growing methods often involve plastic grow bags, controlled environments, and/or the use of chemicals.
The bulk of our produce is grown on logs using modern techniques, providing a more sustainable and natural production method.
